How is your sadhana going?! Keeping up with Sat Kriya? What support do you need? Tune in to our Facebook page for daily inspiration!

Looking for a few good yogis

This community is in need of some folks that can lend some consistent support. Specifically, at this time we are looking for...

Facebook updater
Blogger
Website updater
Panj members

Training is provided! Please visit our new SEVA (selfless service) page to learn more about these opportunities!

Yogathon!

Yogathon is Living Yoga's annual yoga community fundraiser. We have set up a Portland Kundalini fundraising team for the Living Yoga Yogathon! It's really easy to join and fund raise! When you register, please join the team "I LOVE PDX KUNDALINIS!"

The cost to join is $20 - that money and all subsequent funds raised all help run and advance Living Yoga efforts to bring yoga to those recovering from addiction or in prison.
.
We really hope our team can make a splash - and work toward being the winning team. We would love to see Kundalini Yoga more widespread and KNOWN in Portland. This is a great way to do it.

Please consider showing your commitment to your practice by raising funds for an organization that teaches over 1200 classes of yoga a year in prisons and addiction rehabilitation facilities.

Bylaws to be updated

The Panj will be voting on updating the bylaws at the next meeting (April 13). You can read the current bylaws here. The change that is under consideration is in ARTICLE IV – MEMBERSHIP. The proposed changes are here.

Basically, at the last meeting (read the minutes of the March 9 meeting here) a discussion began to in
clude teachers who are paying dues to kypdx and those doing seva as voting members. Voting members can elect Panj members. Part of upholding the bylaws is to let the community know that a change to the bylaws has been proposed. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

A reminder to teachers

Teachers who are supporting kypdx with monthly or yearly dues, please remember that your classes or workshops can be in this blog and the calendar!

Submit your item by emailing satnam@kypdx.org with the subject line "CALENDAR ITEM", "NEWSLETTER ITEM", or "CALENDAR & NEWSLETTER ITEM".

Class time change? Let us know! We can't track everyone down but we do love our website to be accur
ate, so keep us in the loop. Thanks!

Healing Gong Meditation

Many class participants feel as though a huge weight has been lifted off of them by the end of the meditation. Don’t miss this opportunity to de-stress and relax!

Survey Results

Here are some of the ideas we received through our Kundalini Convergence survey. Do you like these ideas? How can we make them a reality? Leave a comment or email us!

  • There are no kundalini classes in north or northeast.  I am a fan of weekday morning classes,  I would love to have an 8 or 9am class a couple times a week if not every day. I am less inclined to go across town at the end of the day.
  • Simply hosting or attending a gathering in your home is so easy and effective in getting people together. Meditate, yoga, music, bhangra, a community service planting trees, etc. Participation is the key to community building.
  • I am willing to host events, I'd like to see a community support person- to help those in need in the community. Also, love the idea to come together in seva. [Seva is selfless service.]
  • I dream of a dedicated Kundalini Yoga studio here in Portland, with classes all day long, every day.
  • We need our own studio, perhaps with a cafe?

April's Panj Meeting

After live music sadhana (thank's to Hari Dass!) there was a Panj meeting on Sunday April 14. Want to know what we talked about? Check out the notes from the meeting. Some highlights:
  • There is a brand new website for the Level 1 Teacher Training course that begins this Fall!
  • We have $5, 000 in the bank, in part due to a generous donation by Holy Kaur. What are our long term and short term goals?
  • Treasurer search continues... Who will step up?
  • We are looking for volunteers to staff a KYPDX table at Snatam's concert May 17.

Are you a detail oriented person? Love making your checkbook balance? Want to serve this community of yogis?

The panj (Kundalini Yoga Portland's board of directors) is in need of a treasurer. Being on the panj is a great way to get to know others in the community! When you serve in this capacity you are never alone - this is the Aquarian Age! - Siri Singh will train the next treasurer (see his note at the end of this post).

Nominations for treasurer are now being accepted. Please read the position description below & feel free to nominate yourself or someone else. Send any nominations to satnam@kypdx.org by April 12.

Panj Treasurer Position Description
Qualifications:
  • Integrity.  This money belongs to the community and is entrusted to the treasurer to keep track of it.
  • Accurate accounting and organizational skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Can you balance a complex checkbook and do your own taxes?
  • Passion for the Kundalini Yoga community & the teachings of Yogi Bhajan.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage/monitor the community's money. This money comes from member's dues, workshop income, donations, EFT, Paypal accounts and is kept in a checking account.  The checking and paypal accounts are owned by Kundalini Yoga Portland.  As Treasurer you can open/close accounts and write checks as needed.  These transactions are recorded in a ledger.
  • Write checks as needed.
  • Make regular deposits of check and cash in the bank account. Transfer monies from Paypal account into bank account.
  • Prepare and file State and Federal taxes.
  • File annual 501C3 status forms.
  • File other forms with the State and Feds as needed
  • Attend monthly Panj meetings.  Present list of current members, current bank balance. Discuss financial situation, projected income and expenses, etc. Participate in the growth and management of Kundalini Yoga Portland.

Time Commitment:
  • 1-2 hours per week to keep organized.  Go on-line and check account balances, transfer monies from paypal to the bank account.  Communicate with members via phone and email.
  • 2 trips to the bank per month to deposit cash and checks.
  • Tax prep will take a several hours once a year.
  • 2 hours per month for Panj meetings

A note from Siri:
Being the Treasurer for the last two years has been a demanding, yet rewarding position for me.  It has been a honor to serve the Community and help it grow.  At this time I feel my enthusiasm waining and it is time for me to step aside and make space for a new Treasurer.  I plan on continuing to manage and teach at Awakenings, so the new Treasurer will not be responsible for this.  I will be available to train the new Treasurer for as long as needed... review the books and accounts, help with taxes next year, etc.
Many Blessings,
Siri Singh
