For 11 evenings (September 28 - October 8) leading up to Guru Ram Das' birthday we will chant his praise. Meditate with Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru for 31 minutes.

Guru Ram Das is known as the Lord of Miracles and the days leading up to his birthday is a powerful time for the fulfillment of prayers and blessings. For 11 days, we gather in each others homes for cozy evenings of prayer, meditation, food and fellowship.

Please check the calendar to see where the meditation will be happening each evening between 7pm and 8pm. We are still in a need of a few hosts, so please let us know if you can open your home for an hour. If you can't join the group, chant it on your own!

And that's not all! On Guru Ram Das' birthday, October 9, there will be a special sadhana - 2.5 hours of Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru. Please meet us at Shakti House at 3am!

Teacher Training begins on Oct 5!

We have 26 students registered for Level 1 teacher training so far and the number is growing! A welcome letter will be sent to registered students next week. If you still want to register there are a few more spots, so sign up while you can.

Teacher training is a great opportunity to deepen your practice in infinite ways whether you plan on teaching or not. Level 1 teacher training is offered every 2 years in Portland and is very affordable in comparison to other KRI certified Level 1 teacher training programs.

There are a number of students coming for this training who do not live in Portland. We invite community members to consider hosting a student for all or part of the training. They would be glad to offer compensation in exchange for the possibility of staying in the energy of the community.

Please join us for a evening of chanting, meditation and story telling with Guru Shabad Singh! A shabad is a hymn or a piece of sacred text that may be chanted kirtan style with devotional music. The man with shabad in his name will be in Portland next Friday at Shakti House.

24 Hour Interfaith Chant for Peace

I have been attending the 24 Hour Interfaith Chant for Peace at the Great Vow Zen Monastery for the past three years. Each time my spirit is renewed.

It is a unique opportunity to send healing waves of energy for peace with so many different faiths and spiritual groups. The groups range from Dharma Rain, Dances for Universal Peace, the Portland Threshold Choir to the Portland/Vancouver Metro Bahai and many more . Chanting, meditating, singing, dancing, and drumming will be found here as we come together to raise the vibration of peace which is so needed at this time to carry us through the Aquarian Age.

Much gratitude to the Great Vow Zen Monastery for creating space in their Zendo for this beautiful event. Kundalini Yoga Portland is leading chants from 7pm-8pm on Saturday the 10th and 4am-5am on Sunday the 11th. Come to support the community. I will be there in bliss and hope to see you there too.

11 Evenings of Meditation August 15-25

Every year we celebrate Yogi Bhajan’s birthday. This is a very cozy occasion when we chant together in gratitude for all the priceless teachings he shared with us.

Eleven days of chanting Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru for 31 minutes each day. Call on Guru Ram Das using Yogi Bhajan’s personal mantra. Join the global spiritual community in connecting with the spirit of Yogi Bhajan, and offering thanks for all the blessings he so generously shared with us. The chanting is hosted at different people’s homes each night from 7pm - 8pm. (Many thanks to all our hosts!!) Please check the calendar to find out where it will be each night August 15-25. If you cannot make it to the community chant, please chant on your own sometime during the day.

Simultaneous Guru Ram Das Chant: Monday August 26

At exactly 3:00 am Pacific Daylight Savings Time the worldwide community simultaneously chants Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru for 11 minutes. This is a powerful worldwide energetic connection to Guru Ram Das, the Lord of Miracles.

Special Morning Sadhana: August 26
For morning sadhana on August 26 after chanting 11 minutes of Guru Guru Wahe Guru, Guru Ram Das Guru we chant Long Ek Ong Kars for 2.5 hours. Yes, it is a long time, and it helps if you chant with a group. If you haven’t experienced this sadhana before, this is a perfect opportunity. In the ambrosial hours at Shakti House the studio will be full of yogis and yoginis wishing to partake of the nectar of this special blessing. Join in with your community! Please arrive before 3am (doors open at 2:45) so we can begin on time. Contact Guru Surya Kaur if you are willing to lead Long Ek Ong Kars for one of the 5 half hour periods - what a blessing!

Free yoga in the park!

As part of the Southeast Sunday Parkways, Guru Surya Kaur will be teaching yoga from 12:00-12:55 at Colonel Summers Park on Sunday August 25. Come on out - she'd love to see you!

Sat Nam yogis!

It's time for our annual picnic in the park this Sunday (July 21)! Come join us at Laurelhurst Park from 12 - 3pm to share in community, food, and fun. This is your opportunity to ask questions about the Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training that begins this October.

Why should I go?
-It's Portland...in a park..on a beautiful summer day...why not?
-Meet other people who are planning on taking teacher training
-Ask questions about teacher training
-Meet the teachers of the community
-Enjoy food, fun, and community in the park

What to bring?
-You, a friend if you'd like, and your questions
-a vegetarian dish to share (please label it with ingredients)

-your own bowl/plate/utensils/cup

-A flower of your choice to represent your intention for teacher training.

Level 1 Teacher Training begins this Fall.

When you take teacher training you go deeper into your practice. You immerse yourself into the teachings. You find more awareness of yourself and your habits.

We are looking forward to this fall when we will see who makes the commitment to show up and take that big step in going deeper! Whether or not you decide to become a teacher and share these teachings is entirely up to you. Thinking about Teacher Training, but still not sure if you are ready? Join us on July 21 for an informal Q&A during a lunchtime picnic in Laurelhurst Park. Details are on our calendar and Facebook page.

From the first moment he began to teach Kundalini Yoga Yogi Bhajan declared "I have come to create teachers, not to gather students. Survey Results

Here are some of the ideas we received through our Kundalini Convergence survey. Do you like these ideas? How can we make them a reality? Leave a comment or email us!

There are no kundalini classes in north or northeast. I am a fan of weekday morning classes, I would love to have an 8 or 9am class a couple times a week if not every day. I am less inclined to go across town at the end of the day.
Simply hosting or attending a gathering in your home is so easy and effective in getting people together. Meditate, yoga, music, bhangra, a community service planting trees, etc. Participation is the key to community building.
I am willing to host events, I'd like to see a community support person- to help those in need in the community. Also, love the idea to come together in seva. [Seva is selfless service.]
I dream of a dedicated Kundalini Yoga studio here in Portland, with classes all day long, every day.
We need our own studio, perhaps with a cafe?
