Every Fall we have the blessing of celebrating Guru Ram Das' birthday. Known as the Lord of Miracles, Guru Ram Das was the 4th Sikh Guru and embodied humility, service, and deep devotion. Guru Ram Das held a special place in Yogi Bhajan's heart. Our community looks to Guru Ram Das for guidance, healing, and protection. Yogi Bhajan gave us a special sadhana to do in celebration of Guru Ram Das's birthday. 

Wednesday, September 28 - Saturday, October 8: For 11 days prior to his birthday we chant the shabad Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru for 31 minutes. This is the Shabad of Miracles. We do this together at each others homes at 7pm. See the CALENDAR to find out where to go each night! Show up! Yes, your presence is powerful so please come to as many chanting events as you can - this will amplify the effect for you and for all those there. If you can't make it, chant on your own when you can!

Sunday, October 9: This is the day we celebrate Guru Ram Das Ji's birth, when we have a special sadhana of chanting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru for 2 ½ hours in the Amrit Vela (see Sadhana page for more info on this potent time for meditation).
Japji will begin at 4am at Awakenings Wellness Center followed by 2.5 hours of chanting.

Yogi Bhajan has described this occasion as a powerful time for the fulfillment of prayers and a time of great blessing. One idea is to write your prayers down and have a place a special box or container that everyone can add to as the 11 days progress. Then, after the birthday sadhana, have a ceremony and burn the prayers, sending them out to the Infinite. Allow the divine healing energy of Guru Ram Das to take care of you.

Ravi Kaur is the manager of the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA) and was recently at a Yoga Journal conference. She wrote, "They had a booth where you could pose and they would create this cover shot. It didn't take much convincing to do it - the performer in me comes out pretty quickly. I posted it on Facebook and most people thought it was real.  That's how much we all want it!"

She will be in town to meet with as many of teachers as she can so she can get know us and learn how IKYTA can support us. Get ready for White Tantric Yoga by participating in the 40-day sadhana! White Tantric Yoga is happening in Portland on April 19. To prepare for this amazing course we (and you!) are doing 40 days of the "everything kriya": Sat Kriya. How long? Well that's up to you, but the goal is 31 minutes.

Each time you come to Sadhana at Shakti House during this 40-day period the leader will set a timer for 31 minutes. If you have not built up to doing 31 minutes you are strongly encouraged to bring your own timer or stopwatch and practice for shorter periods with rests in between. Please read how to build up to 31 minutes and how to finish your practice.

On Sunday March 9 we are kicking off our 40 days of Sat Kriya at Sadhana (begins at 4am). PLEASE REMEMBER TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS FORWARD BEFORE YOU GO TO BED SATURDAY NIGHT! There will be a pot luck breakfast afterwards and a Panj meeting starting at 7am.

Teacher training is a great opportunity to deepen your practice in infinite ways whether you plan on teaching or not. Level 1 teacher training is offered every 2 years in Portland and is very affordable in comparison to other KRI certified Level 1 teacher training programs. 

There are a number of students coming for this training who do not live in Portland. We invite community members to consider hosting a student for all or part of the training. They would be glad to offer compensation in exchange for the possibility of staying in the energy of the community.

We recently added some new classes to the calendar - including a pre-natal class and a class just for seniors...read on!

Jai Satya Kaur (aka Vani, aka Pilar) has 3 classes at Mandala. Her pre-natal class is on Tuesdays at 4pm, followed by a Kundalini Yoga class for all levels at 5:30pm.  Love morning classes? She also teaches at 9am on Mondays.
